Let’s Talk About The Oscars.

So I pretty much looked forward to the Oscars from the moment I woke up until the Red Carpet began last night. Part of it may have been that this year I had seen so many of the movies up for nomination and part of it is that it’s just fun to see how exciting, beautiful, dysfunctional Hollywood can be. Yes, all that and more.

So my top five things to talk about:

1. Can Kristen Chenoweth not be a Red Carpet host again? She is too tiny, she makes the normal sized people look like giants {and in Hollywood, normal sized is relative}. Her next to Adele was painful and her voice is just a stitch annoying. Also, the “mystery box” was dumb.

2. Two favorite men: Bradley Cooper and Channing Tatum. Love that Bradley Cooper brought his mom as a date. However, if one of my kids wants to bring me to the Oscars, I will NOT be pulling a dress out of my closet to wear. We’ll be shopping. For sure. Love how excited Channing Tatum and his wife were about their baby on the way and wanting lots of documentation of the belly being at the Oscars.

3. Favorite ladies: Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lawrence, Adele, Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer. That said, Jennifer Aniston needs to do something with her hair. It always looks exactly the same, stick straight and down. Jennifer Lawrence is adorable and so real which makes us love her even more. I hope to see a lot more of her in the future. Adele is amazing and I liked her look last night a lot better than I did on Grammy night. Jessica Chastain is gorgeous and I loved her in both The Help and Zero Dark Thirty, I would have liked to see her take something home but I think she will someday. And Octavia Spencer, oh what a beautiful, classic woman and so humble.

4. Least favorite ladies: Kristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway and Renee Zellweger. Ok, Kristen has a broken foot, was there not enough time to find a replacement to present with Daniel Radcliffe? She simply looked RIDICULOUS limping across the stage with tangly, crazy hair and umm, I think she might have been on something. Perhaps for the pain. Or maybe something else. And Anne Hathaway? Can she just go away already? “It came true” ?!?! Renee might need an eye exam, or something. Three theories on this one: Either she has really poor eyesight, too much Botox around the eyes or her and Kristen Stewart have been spending a little too much time together. Ahem.

5. Of all the movies up for any sort of award my three favorites were: Argo, Zero Dark Thirty and Silver Linings Playbook. So happy that Argo won and loved that Michelle Obama presented their award. I don’t care which side of politics you fall, she is one classy First Lady.

What did you think? What was your favorite or most annoying moments of the night? Who did you love and who did you think needed a stylist or an intervention?

Oh and in case you haven’t seen this video going viral of the evolution of mom dancing, it just proves again how “hip” our First Lady is. And I, for one, like it:

  1. I TOTALLY agree on Kristen Stewart – what the heck was up with that? I thought Jessica Chastain’s dress was super gorgeous. I was very happy that Argo one Best Picture – it was a great movie!

LOVE the Michelle Obama video – I just shared on FB for a couple of my friends I think would get a kick out of it – so thank you for sharing it!

  2. WHAT!?!? You don’t have anything about the host? 🙂 Seriously, what did you think of him? If the whole show had been celebrities doing soft shoe and ballroom dancing, I would have been all for it. He had a nice voice but those jokes! Oy! Also, I wasn’t crazy about the “Music in Movies” theme. It just made everything seem very random, from winners being pushed out by the Jaws theme to Ang Lee exiting to the Forrest Gump suite. It did not make sense. Finally, I don’t think Catherine Zeta-Jones should have had the option to lipsync when everyone else (even Russell Crowe!) had to sing live. Overall, the most fun was talking about it in real time with some friends near and far, on facebook. That was hilarious!

  3. Oh Jessie! The host was awful. But I felt bad for him because I think he knew just how bad he was. The Jaws music. How could I forget to address that??!??

I agree laughing and joking about it in real time on social media {I chose Twitter last night} was the most fun!

  4. Joe Praska says:

    My favorite parts:
1.The Opening Monologue. All of it; some say it went long but I thought it was great, especially William Shatner back in the role of Kirk!
    2. I though Seth MacFarlane was great, he came as himself and as the creator of Family Guy and Ted, I feel like it should have been somewhat expected what his brand of humor is.
    3. Agreed, Michelle Obama is incredibly classy.

    1. Lack of love for The Beasts of the Southern Wild – awesome movie.
    2. Everything about Kristen Stewart. I also dislike her quite a bit (fun fact: she won the Razzie for worst actress)
    3. I’ve always wished the Oscars had a category or some recognition for ‘off-genre’ movies like a ‘best sci-if/fantasy’ and ‘best comedy’ kind of like they have ‘best animated film’ but I’m sure that will never happen

  5. Joe, I love that you loved Seth! So did Jeff! Hilarious! 🙂

I haven’t seen The Beasts of the Southern Wild…and need to look into that.

More special categories would be great!!

  6. I almost forgot about how disappointing the James Bond tribute was! It was hyped that all the actors to ever portray Bond were supposed to come on stage together but it apparently fell through – I’m adding that one to my dislike category too haha.
